George Lindsay - His story
George is 9yrs old and has a diagnosis of DYRK1A Syndrome, a Severe Learning Disability, Autism, Epilepsy and is Severely Sight Impaired.
George was one of the first children to join The Knights Foundation, attending the social events since he was 2yrs old. He has grown up with The Foundation and we are so happy to be part of the family.
George has been given some amazing opportunities through The Knights Foundation - indoor skydiving, adapted water skiing, and sailing the Wet Wheels boat to the Isle of Wight to name a few! The events are fantastic. We have made friends for life in both the staff and other attending families, and being surrounded by those who share the same lived experiences as us and being able to support each other through it and share information and advice is invaluable, whilst our children grow and play in a fully inclusive, accepting and supportive community.
It is an incredible feeling to be surrounded by those who make The Knights Foundation happen, the epitome of ‘a different ability’ not DISability, evident that with the right support around them there is nothing our children cannot do! Seeing others cheer for and champion your child and watching their confidence grow is a feeling unmatched.
George has also been lucky enough to be nominated for, and win a Children of Courage Award not once but twice within The Foundation! This remains one of George’s proudest achievements and he proudly displays his awards at home. Seeing George so happy and excited as the crowd cheered him on to collect his awards on stage is an experience we will both never forget, and I am so grateful to The Knights Foundation for their care and support and the happiness they have brought George and all of us since we found them.
